Outline of the I Korean Studies Workshop
for International School Educators 2007~2008
1. Purpose

The Korean Studies Workshop for International School Educators in Korea 2007~2008 is designed to provide international school educators in Korea with a comprehensive and clear understanding of Korea and Korean studies which can then be shared and applied in the classroom.

2. Contents of the Workshop

This Workshop, which is being organized by the Korea Foundation with support of PDK-Korea, is composed of lectures, cultural events, Korean home-visits, and meetings with Korean educators and students. Lectures will include Korean history, society, contemporary culture, economy, education, and politics of Korea and will be given in English by prominent university professors and other experts. If required, Korean-English translation will be provided. Each lecture will be followed by on-site or related activities which will complement the theory of the lecture. The participants will be provided with the necessary resources and materials for the workshop.

3. Participants of the Workshop

Around 30 International School Educators residing in Korea who wish to gain a better understanding and in-depth knowledge about Korea are encouraged to apply. The Korea Foundation will select the most eligible applicants to participate.

4. Eligibility for applying
a. Teachers and administrative teachers at International Schools in Korea, who:
- Are foreigners, preferably in their 30s or 40s
- Have at least one year of experience of classroom teaching
- Plan to continue to teach in or outside Korea
- Teach Social Studies, Sociology, or Geography
b. Principals and other educational professionals who wish to gain a better sense
of Korea and Korean studies
5. Timing and Period

Workshops will be held on every third Saturday in September, October and November in 2007 and, February, March and April in 2008, totaling six workshop days. (September 15, October 20 and November 17 in 2007, February 16, March 15, and April 19 in 2008)

6. Budget and Expenses

The Korea Foundation will bear all the expenses directly related to lectures and events. However, accommodation, meals and transportation to/from the venue are the participants' responsibility.
